University of Cumbria seals Malaysian connection

Academic staff from the University of Cumbria travelled to Malaysia to seal a collaboration with Fame International College (FAME) in Kuching which has been in development for two years.

Executive Dean Professor Robin Talbot, along with Dr Caroline Rouncefield and Dr Raye Ng from the university’s Business School, signed a Memorandum of Agreement to finalise the launch of two degree programmes at the college.

The BSc (Hons) Business Management, Accounting and Finance and the BA (Hons) International Business Management programmes will be taught and delivered locally at FAME, with the degrees conferred by the University of Cumbria upon successful completion.

Executive Dean Robin Talbot comments:

“With the development of this new partnership, we are looking forward to closer ties and increased mobility of staff and students between Cumbria and Kuching.

“Our academic staff will be visiting the programmes regularly and we have invited staff from FAME to our Lancaster campus to see how the programmes are taught and managed in the UK.”

FAME’s chief executive officer, David Chew says:

“This is a high quality honour degree programme. There has been a lot of scaling up within FAME International College in this collaboration, and we will ensure students in these degree programmes get to experience the University of Cumbria learning experience at the campus in Kuching.”

Pro-Vice Chancellor Sandra Booth from the University of Cumbria will be the keynote speaker at the ASEAN-China Conference in Kuching in May this year, and she will also take the opportunity to visit colleagues and students at FAME at that time.
