A visit by University of Cumbria staff to Malaysia last week was aimed at strengthening links between the institution and Asian businesses, industries and entrepreneurs.
Sandra Booth, Pro-Vice Chancellor Enterprise, Business Development and Engagement at the university, was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the ASEAN-China Entrepreneurs’ (ACE) Conference held in Kuching, Malaysia.
ASEAN is the Association of South East Asian Nations, which currently has 10 member states including Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines and Vietnam.
The ACE Conference provides a platform for networking and business opportunities among industries and SMEs from ASEAN and China.
In January 2016 the University of Cumbria finalised the launch of two degree programmes at FAME International College in Kuching. The BSc (Hons) Business Management, Accounting and Finance and the BA (Hons) International Business Management programmes are taught and delivered locally at FAME, with the degrees conferred by the University of Cumbria upon successful completion.
FAME were the primary organising body for the ASEAN-China conference involving over 400 attendees from many different countries, with delegates including government ministers, trade representatives and many leading entrepreneurs from across the two regions.
Sandra Booth commented: “I was delighted and extremely honoured to share the platform at the conference with leading speakers on business growth opportunities for entrepreneurs in a connected world.
“It was amazing to see that although we are many miles apart, we share the same values and we engage in enterprise in the same way. The university has global ambitions and we are already working to develop partnerships within the ASEAN region.”
