Gain experience to improve employability, FAME chief exec tells students

KUCHING: Knowledge and skill is fundamental, but adding on relevant experiences in one’s resume would make one more competitive when seeking employment, said FAME International College (FAME) chief executive officer David Chew.

Addressing Form 6 students at the opening ceremony of the college’s Pre-STPM Workshop for Malaysian University English Test (MUET) here yesterday, he encouraged them to take chances and explore opportunities with a positive mind.

“Forget negativity. Have a positive mind to allow yourself to live life with passion and be who you are and do what you want,” said Chew.

The workshop was held to polish the language skills and improve knowledge of STPM candidates. The students were guided by ‘Guru Cemerlang’ Jennifer Kong to prepare them for their MUET examination.

About 400 students from SMK Muara Tuang, SMK Green Road, SMK Batu Lintang, SMK Pending, SMK St Thomas and SMK Batu Kawah attended the talk at Hilton Hotel Kuching.

FAME offers Business Studies, Foundation in Management and Diploma courses, Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Diploma courses include Accounting and Finance, Business Administration and ENtrepreneurship. The college also offers International English courses.

FAME also conducts ‘3+0’ degree programmes namely Bachelor of Science (Hons) Business Management, Accounting and Finance and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) International Business Management in collaboration with the University of Cumbria, United Kingdom.

All diploma holders at FAME can enter year-two degree. They can attain some bachelor degrees locally. The degree programmes are facilitated by local lecturers working closely with University of Cumbria’s faculty to ensure similar learning experiences with students on campus in the UK.

University of Cumbria is an established university in the UK. According to the Guardian League Table 2016 published on May 26, 2015, its business management courses were ranked 39 out of 96 business schools in the UK.
