SIBU: FAME International College (FAME), Kuching organised a Pre-STPM workshop for MUET (Malaysian University English Test) for more than 600 sixth formers from six secondary schools here.
The half-day event, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of the college, was held at Kingwood hotel yesterday.
The participants were guided on how to answer questions which involved listening, speaking, writing and reading components.
Teo Ai Kiat, an experienced MUET teacher conducted the workshop which was attended by students from SMK Methodist, SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Chung Hua, SMK Nangka, SMK Sg Merah, SMK Tung Hua, SMK Bandar Sibu, SMK Rosli Dhoby and SMK Lanang.
Teo who started teaching MUET in 2000 has trained several students who won the top national level prizes in the November 2016 and 2017 sessions.
The workshop, the second one organised in Sibu by FAME, received overwhelming response from the STPM students and teachers.
In her welcoming speech, FAME’s marketing director, Rachel Choo thanked the principals and teachers of the participating schools for their support.
FAME formerly known as FTMS College was established 20 years ago has thus far produced more than 4,000 graduates .
Choo said FAME is an acronym for Financial, Accountancy, Management and Entrepreneurship- the four disciplines that represents the core of FAME.
The college offers Certificate in Business Studies, Foundation in Management and diploma courses, Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Diploma courses include Accounting and Finance, Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. It also conducts international English courses.
The college also conducts two 3+0 degree programmes, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Business management, Accounting and Finance and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) International Business Management in collaboration with the University of Cumbria (UoC), United Kingdom (UK).
Next year, FAME would be launching a new bachelor degree programme majoring in accounting, which also received recognition and exemptions from professional accounting body such as ACCA and ICAEW.
All diploma holders at FAME can gain direct entry into year two allowing them to attain the bachelor degrees locally.
The degree programmes are facilitated by local lecturers working closely with UoC’s faculty to ensure similar learning experiences with students on campus in the UK.
UoC is an established university in the UK.
According to the Guardian League Table 2018 on August 2018, UoC’s business management courses were ranked 35 out of 126 business schools in the UK.
All courses offered by FAME are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Therefore, student are also eligible for PTPTN loan facilities.
FAME and UoC are also jointly offering full and partial scholarship to STPM students. STPM leavers who obtained CGPA 3.0 and above are eligible to apply.
Furthermore, as part of FAME’s back-to-society contribution, the college offers hardship scholarships for all courses to students who are in need of education funds.
This include students from single parent family with household income of less than RM3,000 per month.
Students with outstanding achievements in sports or other areas of talent recognised at state or national levels are also eligible for the Talent scholarships.
